Steps of Examination

a. Head / Face

• Look for nystagmus

Speech: ask patient to say ‘British Constitution’

b. Upper limbs

• Shake hand to test tone
• Ask patient to lift arms (forward), look for arm drift
Finger-nose test : Ask the patient to touch his or her nose with the index finger and then turn the finger around and touch your outstretched forefinger (Patient’s shoulder & elbow should be nearly extended when touching your finger)
• Test for rapidly alternating movements: Ask patient to pronate and supinate his hand on the dorsum of the other hand, as rapidly as possible

c. Lower limbs

• Test tone
Heel-shin-test: Ask patient to slide the heel down slowly on each side of the lower limbs for several cycle
