Types

• Specific VS non-specific (e.g. phentolamine, phenoxybenzamine)

• Reduces peripheral resistance → lowers BP
• Reduces prostatic & urethral smooth muscle

α blockers	Starting dose	Recommended maximum daily dose
Doxazosin	1 mg OD	16 mg OD
Prazosin	0.5 mg BD - TDS	20 mg in divided doses
Terazosin	1 mg ON	20 mg OD
